Marian Bauer - Director of Christian Education

 

Marian graduated from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary with a MA in religious education and has been a full-time Director of Christian Education in Presbyterian Church, USA, churches around the country. In 1983, she became a Certified Christian Educator in the PCUSA. In each presbytery and synod in which she has worked, Marian has been involved in various committees as a participant or moderator. She has taught at various presbytery and synod events.  She was in charge of the children’s program for Peacemaking 2000 held at American University and was a Children’s Ministry Consultant for the PCUSA for three years.  Marian is a member of the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators and was the moderator of the Mid-South (4 states) regional APCE. She helped to plan the national event that was held in Birmingham, AL, and taught two courses (Mission with Children, Puppet Making) in 2000.  Continuing education at seminaries or at conferences such as APCE or at the Annual Recreation Workshop at Montreat Conference Center in North Carolina is a yearly event.

 

Marian was born in Pittsburgh, PA into a Presbyterian Church family.  Her father and her maternal grandfather were both Presbyterian ministers.  Marian was reared in NW PA.  She graduated from Grove City College and taught English and literature (and a few extra things!) in Ennis, MT. Marian’s father died in 2004.  Her mother, associate professor emeriti of nursing at Akron University, lives in Akron, OH.  Marian’s three siblings (all married) are: Paul, who is a Presbyterian pastor and a high school guidance counselor in MD; Connie, who teaches learning disabled students in MA; and John, who teaches social studies in FL. She also has eight nieces and nephews (6 of who are married) and 4 grand nieces and nephews.

     Marian enjoys her family, traveling, taking pictures, swimming, volunteering, making puppets, writing and making up word games. The volunteer position she enjoyed the most was the 2 ½ years at the Information Desk at the American History Museum of the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.
