Those present:

Approval of Minutes: April 20, 2006 Meeting

Discuss and review the following:

Adult Education class: Worship at Westminster: April 23 – May 14, 2006, Room 6

John Helt and Joe Chrisman will summarize and evaluate the adult education class,

“Worship @ Westminster.” Discuss the evaluation form that was used in the April 30 Sunday worship service.

Recommendations from the class:

+  Include the wording of the Book of Order in the sections of the Westminster bulletin.

+  Include information in the bulletin about the next worship service in the bulletin to help member prepare for the next service.

+ Look at possibility of having meditation time in the chapel before the service.

+ Examine the evaluation process.

+  In order to keep the congregation informed of worship committee and Christian education classes and activities, give a Worship@Westminster report in the next newsletter.

Another education opportunity: Marian Bauer has requested that the Worship Committee assist her with a class teaching children, youth and families about liturgical elements of the church. These classes would take place on a minimum of two Saturday mornings during the year – either two Saturdays in a row or one before Advent and the other before Lent. Elements such as communion elements: where they are prepared, how they are prepared, what they look like and what do they symbolize. Other elements might be the communion table and the baptismal font, pulpit, lectern, organ, etc. These classes would take place primarily in the sanctuary. It is an opportunity to teach and have the children of the church understand the process of worship. Marian is seeking approval to begin planning these classes and requests your presence and assistance for them.

Reports on the following:

Review and discuss the advertising budget, the process, and effectiveness of our print communications used throughout the year in newsletters, bulletins, the newspaper and yellow page ads.

Recommendations of the Worship Committee for advertising, newsletters and bulletins during Advent and Lenten Seasons next year:

+ Include advertising in the budget for next year.

+ Begin the planning and process earlier farther in advance to allow adequate amount of time for development and production.

+ Begin work for Advent and Lent with the State Journal and the Yellow pages

earlier.

+ Focus on accuracy and timeliness of all print information and communication.

+ More proofreading and more eyes reviewing all final products. Have a specific process for proofreading and allow no changes without the staff’s approval.

+ Use Liturgical Season Brochures for each season to help instruct and inform congregation - show possible layout, content and schedule for next year.
