Minutes: Worship Committee Meeting
11/20/06, 7:00pm, Room 6 (lower lever) Members present: Alex Thornburg, Joe Chrisman,

Worship Concerns for Advent: 1.
Advent Brochure sent out to
congregation Nov. 16th Ads for the State Journal approved layout; Harriet will get price from State Journal 2.
Christmas services 5:00pm - family oriented, story-telling,
use candles 11:00pm separate
bulletin, communion by intinction (use choir
members as elders/deacons), contemplative setting, congregation to circle the
sanctuary with candle light. B.

Worship Planning: 1.
Calendar for 2007 approved and will send to Session for approval 2.
Worship Committee Planning 2007 will examine and use during 2007 3.
Communion: Letter
to past elders and deacons to enlist their services as communion servers
during the 2007 calendar year. Some have responded. Compile list as soon as possible. D.
Ushers and Greeters Margo - Hallway too crowded as choir, acolytes, liturgist and pastor line up to go into the sanctuary. Find
a method to
seat latecomers or have the choir process in from another entrance. E.
Acolytes, Liturgists, Ushers 1.
Liturgists scheduled through Jan 7. Jean will send a list of past
liturgists to office. Alex will identify liturgist from the Time and Talent
sheets and invite to training session. Begin to use DCE
and pastors emerita as liturgists. 2.
Jan. 21: Training session for ushers, liturgists and acolytes following
the worship service F.
Worship report for the Annual Report - send worship report to office G. Place on

II. Budget Items: A. Report on the attendance registration holders. Order burgundy colored folders B. Purchase an Advent Wreath holder from Sander Fund III. Education and Examen 1. Examen over 2007: How should our
definitions of worship be reflected through liturgical elements in the
narthex and sanctuary? Use List of Liturgical Elements - Looked at all of the existing
liturgical elements that Focused our
discussion on elements used during Advent - Advent
Wreath holder purchase this year if possible -

Child is Born 2. Reported the committee structure and
committee night concept discussed at the Session Retreat of Nov. 18. Worship
Committee expressed the importance of the presence of the pastor at the
entire meeting of the Worship Committee in order to work collaboratively with
pastor, music director and worship committee. Will continue thought and discussion on this issue. Recommendations and actions items: - Approve the worship calendar
for January through August 2007. - Order and purchase new
burgundy attendance registration / pew pads - Purchase an Advent Wreath
